Flashback to 1983: "In The Mood" (Robert Plant)

This song was a Top 40 hit (reaching #39 - so barely) for former Led Zeppelin lead singer Robert Plant in 1983.  Watch this video.  It's a strange mashup of Plant's original video and footage from the film 2001: A Space Odyssey.  What d'ya think?

Today Is "Election Day" In NJ

Today is a special election day in New Jersey.  Two wonderful, loving men with nothing to hide and nothing but the best intentions for all the peoples of the state, while not caring one iota about re-election and staying in office until death do they part, are running for United States Senate.  We wish them, and every politician, luck today.  Here's a song for you going back to '85 by Duran Duran spinoff, Arcadia.  Now go and Rock!

Commercials We Grew Up With: 1970s

If you grew up in the '70s & '80s, you'll recognize a lot of these.  Vic Taback (from Alice) in a Parkay commercial.  Earl Campbell, the Oilers running back, for Skoal.  We'll go "Koo Koo for Cocoa-Puffs," see how much "Mikey likes it!" and learn about "two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.  Watch!

Problems With Classical Music

You should go HERE and scroll ahead about 5 or 6 minutes to listen to what's going on with the business side of the Classical music world.  While the availability of Classical music is greater than ever before, it's harder than ever to make a living at it.  This report, from American Public Media's "Marketplace Morning Report" on October 11, explains what's going on and interestingly compares it to Obamacare.  Listen to it.  C'mon.  It's only like 3 1/2 minutes long.  Your life will change forever.

Cover Me: "Blinded By The Light" Springsteen Vs. Manfred Mann

Back in 1973, a young artist named Bruce Springsteen released his first album.  It was a very Bob Dylan-esque album; acoustic-guitar driven with lyrics more like prose than Rock 'N' Roll.  The first song on the album was "Blinded By The Light."  Flash-forward three years.  Manfred Mann's Earth Band, formerly of "Doo Wah Diddy Diddy" fame, released a cover version of "Blinded By The Light."  Which one do you think is best?
